A God must begin with an idea, but an idea can be MISUNDERSTOOD

Tell your stories say goodbye – feast today for tomorrow we die

A religion must start with a god, and that god must start with an idea. The idea of fire, or wind, or the wilderness and the color of moonshine, or first breath of a new born child. A religion must start with a god, and that god must start with an idea, and that idea must start with a dreamer. Only poets and madmen dream of new gods, because they see the virtue of a thing and not the use of it. People do not listen to poets and few would admit to listening to one insane, but sometimes the idea of a god becomes a seed in the mind of some creative individual. It could take months or it could take generations before that seed germinates and starts to grow, and the plant that is the idea gives flower to the god, and a religion is born. It spreads, slowly at first but gaining momentum until it has crossed the minds of all. Sometimes the religion dies, or the god dies – or at worst, the idea dies, and the religion becomes a hollow shell that its leaders use to manipulate its followers. Or perhaps the idea is misunderstood, and the god of fire becomes the tyrant of battle because those who now dream of him forget the fire that warms their homes, cooks their meals and wards off the darkness.

Starclan began with an idea. The poets and the madmen dreamt that their dearly departed watched and advised from beyond the great void between life and death. Starclan was dreamt a god of bridges, linking the land of the dead with the land of the living over the great black river Styx. The idea that was Starclan journeyed with gypsies and nomads across the world, and it met with the idea called the Tamerlain, who was the idea of the moonshine, and the freedom of the wilderness, and the beauty of the transition from life to death and death to life, birth and death.

Misunderstood wants to take you back. Before the kitty-pet called Rusty was even conceived – before kitty-pets existed, before Starclan watched from silverpelt. The two-legs call this time the Dark Ages, but for the feline population in the primal forests it was an age of light. A moon-worshiping religion that adhered to the idea called the goddess Tamerlain was spread through the world and Starclan was just a vague idea in a poet’s mind. The religion of Tamerlain was one of warrior priests, hunter-gatherer priestesses and educated plebeians.

But the poet spoke of his idea, and his idea grew, and it spread, and it became Starclan in the mind of a prophet, who brought it to the stygian glades of the forestborder of the winterwood. From there, it spread . . . .

Deepwoods
[ ]Above and Beyond
There are three towns in the deepwoods, but so many sacred or spectacular places it would take too long to list them – as such, if you want to roleplay in one of the places not mentioned or one you’ve made up, post a thread here. This board represents all land around and beyond the towns, so long as it is inside the deep green darkness of the Deepwoods.

[ ]Eternityspring
Eternityspring is a smaller town than most, tucked into the cliffside of a large ridge of dark rock that runs through most of the Winterwood deepwoods just high enough to peek out over the canopy. Eternityspring is just below said canopy, a large hollow in the stone wall, with stair-like dents in the rock carving an almost-invisible path up to the entrance. The trees around the ridge are mostly pine, but ferns and creepers make their appearance also, providing great cover for hunting priestesses. The spring that gives the town it's name runs down just to one side of the entrance, with a pool forming in a dip of rock before tumbling to the floor and joining the river.

[ ]Otari Dens
Hidden within the deepest, darkest parts of the Winterwood’s Deepwoods, Otari Dens is a large bustling town and the seat of the High Priestess and her senate. Her den is a hollow stump set on a rise just under a spreading, creeper-covered oak tree in the middle of the town, and spread around her are the various abodes of other cats. Only one who knew the town was there could see it in the upturned leaves, the churned loam and the amber eyes peering out from the shadows under fern fonds. A stream winds a way through the town and joins with the river, and food is abundant.

[ ]Tamerlain's Forge
Hidden amongst the steam of a dozen hot pools and the ensuing lush greenery, Tamerlain’s Forge is a town so named because legend has it that the god Tamerlain used to beat metal with her tail as the humans do, and she would cool the red-hot metal in the pools here, causing them to boil. Tamerlain’s Forge dens are hidden amongst the geysers and swamp greenery, beds made of ferns and marsh grass. Broad, bright green leaves of stubby trees shelter the town from most rain and sun, keeping it constantly warm and moist under the leaves.

Forestborder
[ ]Above and Beyond
Above and beyond the towns in the Forestborder there is an almost endless expanse of pine woods, the trees becoming more varied the closer one comes to the Deepwoods. If you wish to roleplay outside the towns or in the place you have invented for yourself, you can post here as this board encompasses all the Forestborder above and beyond the towns.

[ ]Aeolian Loft
Aeolian Loft is a town built in the boughs of two massive fig trees that have grown to almost completely swallow the broken masonry of an ancient human ruin. The two trees are intertwined and as such the branches form platforms on which the feline population make their nests of moss and ferns. The stones of the ruin are scattered around, half hidden by the grass of the clearing, but some of the original building still stands, and beyond the fig roots and branches there is a cool, dark shelter where the Priest Clan of the town whittle away the days.

[ ]Hallow Dens
Hallow Dens was a town loyal to Tamerlain, but when the majority of the population converted to Starclan, those still of the moon religion migrated away, leaving the Hallow Dens in the control of Makolie and his new religion. Hallow Dens is a row of badger sets and rabbit hollows that the inhabitants have enlarged into an endless warren of tunnels, with a great hollow chamber for assemblies and individual sleeping dens filled with moss and hay. The entrances to these tunnels are hidden by thistles and tall grasses, and the location is just on the very border between the Forestborder and Deepwoods of the Winterwood. Wolf howls fill the night air the huge trees creak like un-oiled hinges in the wind.

[ ]Hallow Mews
Hallow Mews is barely a town at all – the cliff that runs through the winterwood ends at this point in the forestborder, and it reaches its highest point here. Named for the way the rock is riddled with holes, each hole sheltering the nest of a bird of prey. Most cats avoid the place, the eerie cries of rock eagles unsettling them, but a small town of mostly priests and priestesses is almost swallowed by a stand of birch at the foot of the rocky monolith, the floor carpeted by dark gravel and the occasional tuft of hardy grass.

Worlds In-between
[ ]Advent Silverpelt
In these gilded days, Starclan lives in the skies – the very stars we admire by night. But when the Tamerlains till ruled, that space was taken up by the Tamerlains’ single eye, the moon, and her multitude of scars, the stars. Starclan was forced to dwell below, in the lands of the doomed and damned. Across the dark Styx, the spirits of the dead waited for the time when they could cross the waters and visit the worlds above. This place is where they dwell, locked away from the spirits that the Tamerlain has claimed. It is, in a way, the very first Silverpelt - the stars you see reflected in black waters at night.
You can roleplay dead Starclan characters here. Starclan posts announcements in this board.

[ ]Netherworld
The Netherworld, were the spirits of those who followed the Tamerlain gather, is a place of inverted colors, upside down landscapes, and a maze of magical forests where every step changes the layout. The Tamerlain herself walks here with her court of fallen High Priestesses, giving prophecies to the dead, who in turn speak to the living above on their rare forays into our world.
You may roleplay dead Tamerlain characters here, and the Tamerlain posts announcements in this board.
